CWS Door Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you have a CWS door that needs installation or a failed part replaced, we stock CWS-compatible door hardware and complete door units, and most Los Angeles installations run between $850 and $2,400 fully installed depending on the door type and what’s being replaced. We carry CWS door components on our trucks for common repairs and can order complete CWS door systems when a full replacement is what the job calls for. The way most owners discover a problem: a door that won’t latch, a hinge that groans, a sweep that’s dragging, or a roller that’s finally given up after years of South Bay salt air and San Fernando Valley heat.

We’re an independent Los Angeles door installation company, not affiliated with CWS, which means we match the part to your door instead of pushing a single brand. Keith Yamada, our owner, grew up in Gardena and learned door work where every house had the same mid-century aluminum sliders and tired hinged doors. He’ll tell you the same thing we tell every customer: the opening is as important as the door. Get that part right and everything else follows.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS builds two primary door lines we see across Los Angeles: hinged entry doors in fiberglass and steel, and sliding patio doors in aluminum, vinyl, and thermally broken configurations. The compatibility gotcha most owners don’t know: CWS hinged door hardware, especially hinges and multipoint locks, is sized to the door slab thickness, and we regularly see 1-3/4″ slabs mixed with 1-3/8″ slabs on the same home. A hinge that fits one won’t sit flush on the other, and forcing it creates a door that binds at the latch or sags within a season.

On sliding doors, CWS uses a rail profile that’s slightly deeper than the generic track kits sold at big-box stores. If you install an aftermarket roller on a CWS track, it may roll, but it won’t seat fully, and that’s when you get a door that lifts off its track or leaks at the sill. For most CWS parts, we recommend OEM where the part is structural or weather-sealing: rollers, hinges, multipoint lock bodies. For wear items like sweeps, weatherstripping, and handles, quality aftermarket equivalents often match OEM spec at a better price, and we’ll show you both options side by side. If you’re not sure which CWS series you have, open the door and look at the hinge edge or the corner of the fixed panel: CWS stamps a series code there, and we can identify the door from a photo.

Signs Your CWS Door Installation Is Failing

  • The door sticks or drags at the top corner. This usually means the top hinge has worn enough to let the slab tilt, or on a slider, the top roller has flattened. Every month it drags, it’s wearing the frame and the latch geometry.
  • The lock requires a shoulder or a jiggle to turn. CWS multipoint locks depend on exact alignment between the lock body and the strike plate. When hinges settle or the slab shifts, the lock binds. Forcing it only bends the lock rod, and then you’re replacing the mechanism instead of adjusting it.
  • You can see daylight or feel a draft at the sill or side jamb. In Los Angeles, this is especially common on west-facing doors that take full afternoon sun. The sweep compresses and hardens, and the jamb weatherstrip loses its memory. Drafts are a repair now, not a replacement later.
  • The door lifts slightly when you pull it closed, then drops. On a CWS slider, this is a roller that’s worn past spec and floating in the track. Left alone, the door will eventually jump the track or chew the rail, and then you’re looking at frame work, not just a roller swap.
  • You hear a grind or a rattle at the bottom when the door moves. That’s a roller bearing that’s lost its seal and packed with grit, or a hinge pin that’s scored. In coastal Los Angeles neighborhoods like Playa del Rey or San Pedro, salt air accelerates this, and we see rollers fail twice as fast within five miles of the water.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, CWS door part replacement and installation pricing breaks down like this:

  • Roller replacement on a CWS slider: $180 – $320 per panel, including new rollers, track cleaning, and adjustment.
  • Hinge replacement on a hinged CWS door: $140 – $280, depending on hinge count and whether the frame needs shimming.
  • Weatherstripping and sweep replacement: $120 – $240 per door, installed.
  • Multipoint lock replacement: $320 – $520, including the lock body, rekeying to match your existing key, and alignment.
  • Full CWS door installation (slab and frame, labor only): $850 – $1,600 for a hinged entry, $1,100 – $2,400 for a slider, depending on size, stucco work, and whether the rough opening needs adjustment.

Every price we quote is written, line-itemed, and handed to you before any work starts. You’ll know what the parts cost, what the labor costs, and what the final number is, and that number does not change unless you change the scope. Our work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the installation isn’t right, we make it right, with no countdown and no debate. We don’t do change orders, and we don’t ask you to sign a blank check and hope for the best.

DIY or Call Us?

Some parts of a CWS door you can absolutely inspect yourself. Check the screws on the hinges: if the top hinge screws are loose, tighten them by hand and see if the door sits better. Check the sweep: if it’s cracked or flattened, that’s a part you can order and pop into the kerf slot on most models. On sliders, you can vacuum the bottom track and wipe down the rollers without taking anything apart.

Where we’d pause: any job that requires lifting the door slab off its frame, removing a slider panel from its track, or disassembling a multipoint lock. These are heavy doors, often 80 to 200 pounds per panel, and a tipped door will damage the frame, the threshold, and the person holding it. Springs, cables, and tempered glass panels deserve professional handling. If you’ve got a door that’s sticking, sagging, or failing to latch, call us at (562) 478-8017. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a maintenance item or a repair, and the estimate is free.
