CGI Sliding & Patio Doors: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If your CGI sliding or patio door has a failed roller, a worn track, a broken lock, or a panel that no longer glides, we stock the replacement parts and install them across Los Angeles. Most CGI-compatible sliding door repairs in this market run between $185 and $620 installed depending on the part and how much of the track assembly needs attention. A full door replacement, when the frame itself is compromised, typically lands between $1,800 and $4,200. The way most Los Angeles homeowners discover the failure is the same: the door goes from smooth to sticky over the course of a few weeks, then one morning it refuses to move at all, or the lock stops catching. By the time it reaches that point, the roller cartridge is usually flattened on one side and the track has started to score.

Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI makes sliding and patio doors across several product families, and the parts are not interchangeable between all of them. The most common lines we service in Los Angeles are the Targa series, the Estate Collection, and the Estate Impact line. Each uses a different roller assembly. A Targa roller will not seat correctly in an Estate Impact track, and forcing it is how homeowners end up with a bent guide rail and a door that jumps the track under load. The reliable way to identify what you have is the white label on the interior edge of the door panel itself. It carries the series name, the glass spec, and a production code. If that label is faded or painted over, we measure the roller housing width and the track profile before ordering anything. On the OEM versus aftermarket question for CGI specifically: we install both, and we are honest about the tradeoff. OEM CGI parts carry the exact tolerance the factory designed. Quality aftermarket equivalents, when they exist, can cost 30 to 40 percent less and perform as well for standard non-impact doors. The exception is any impact-rated panel: those get OEM parts, no exceptions, because the load path depends on precise fitment. Lightwell Windows & Doors is an independent service provider and installer, not a CGI factory affiliate, so we are free to recommend whichever part actually fits your door and your budget.

Signs Your CGI Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing

  • The panel drags or catches mid-track. This almost always means a roller bearing has flattened or the roller housing has cracked. In Los Angeles, fine dust works into the bearing grease and accelerates the wear, especially on west-facing doors near the coast.
  • The lock latch won’t seat into the strike plate. The door panel has settled a fraction of an inch, usually because one of the two rollers has compressed. It is rarely the lock itself that fails first.
  • The weatherstripping is torn or flattened along the bottom rail. Once the seal goes, the door loses its air barrier and dust intrusion becomes visible along the interior track within weeks during Santa Ana season.
  • You hear a grinding sound when the panel moves. That is metal-on-metal contact where the roller wheel has stopped spinning and is now being dragged across the aluminum track, gouging it deeper with every pass.
  • The panel leans inward at the top when closed. A top guide failure lets the panel tilt out of plane. Left alone, it stresses the glass and the corner joints, which turns a $40 roller job into a panel replacement.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, the installed price for most CGI sliding door roller replacements runs $185 to $340 per panel when we are swapping the two roller cartridges and adjusting the track. Lock and strike plate replacements land between $95 and $180. Track repair, where the aluminum rail has been scored badly enough to need a splice or full replacement, pushes the job to $420 to $620. A full door replacement with new CGI panels runs $1,800 to $4,200 depending on panel width, glass package, and whether it is an impact-rated model. Every price we quote is a written line-item number before any work starts. That means the part cost, the labor, and the disposal fee are all spelled out separately, and the number does not change once the job is underway unless you ask us to add scope. The work itself is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the door does not glide correctly or the lock does not seat properly within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. We also photograph the track and the cleaned work area before we leave, so you know exactly what was touched.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things you can safely check before calling us. Run a flathead screwdriver wrapped in a rag along the track to clear debris, then test the door. Examine the bottom rail weatherstripping for gaps. Spray a dry silicone lubricant on the track surface, not oil-based anything, which turns into a paste in Los Angeles dust. What you should not attempt is removing the panel to get at the rollers. A CGI sliding panel weighs between 120 and 250 pounds depending on whether it is impact glass, and it comes out of the track in a way that is easy to get wrong without a second person and the right lift technique. We have been called to too many jobs where a homeowner got the panel half out, twisted the frame, and turned a roller replacement into a full panel order. If the door is grinding, leaning, or fighting you, call us at (562) 478-8017 and we will look at it properly. Keith Yamada has measured enough rough openings across Los Angeles to know when a door can be saved and when it is time to replace the panel, and he will tell you straight either way.

FAQs

How long should a CGI sliding door roller last in Los Angeles? In our Los Angeles service area, expect 7 to 10 years from OEM rollers on a door that sees daily use, less on coastal installs where salt air accelerates bearing wear. Doors that are rarely moved last longer on the rollers but often fail first at the lock and weatherstripping, which dry out from disuse.

Can my CGI sliding door hardware be repaired instead of replaced? Some components can be repaired in place, but roller cartridges and lock bodies on CGI doors are sealed units designed for replacement, not rebuild. We will clean and re-lubricate a roller assembly if the bearing still spins freely and only the grease has hardened. If the wheel is flat-spotted or the housing is cracked, the unit gets replaced.

How long does a CGI roller or lock replacement take? A standard two-roller replacement with track adjustment takes our technicians about 90 minutes once the panel is lifted and supported. A full track replacement or a single-panel door swap runs half a day. We schedule the work around your family’s quiet hours and lay drop cloths under the full work area before the panel comes off.

Do you stock CGI sliding door parts in Los Angeles, or do you have to order them? We keep the high-failure items on our service trucks: roller cartridges for Targa and Estate panels, standard strike plates, and replacement weatherstripping in common widths. Impact-rated and less common series parts are ordered from our supplier network and usually in hand within 2 to 4 business days. Call (562) 478-8017 and we will verify what you need before the first visit, so the truck arrives with the right part the first time. Estimates are free and the price is in writing before anything gets touched.
