Franchise FAQ

You’re here because the Lightwell name means something to you, and you want to know if owning one makes sense. These are the questions we hear most often from people considering a Lightwell Windows & Doors franchise. Keith Yamada, our owner, has answered them the same way he gives an estimate: straight, no padding.

Common Questions

Do I need experience in windows and doors to open a Lightwell location?

No. You need to be willing to learn the trade and, more importantly, willing to run the trade. What matters more than prior window experience is your comfort with people, your ability to manage a crew, and your willingness to follow the Cedarwell Care Promise to the letter. Plenty of our best operators came from other industries entirely. They brought discipline and customer sense, and we handled the technical training. That said, if you do have construction or home services experience, it will absolutely shorten your learning curve. Either path works as long as you’re serious about the standard.

What is the total investment range for a Lightwell Windows & Doors franchise?

The total investment depends on your market, the size of your initial inventory, and your local buildout, so giving one flat number here would be dishonest. What we can tell you is that Keith Yamada will walk you through every line item before you commit a dollar. No one at Lightwell will hide a cost from you. That’s the same rule we apply to customers, and it applies to franchisees twice over. Expect a conversation, not a glossy brochure with fine print at the bottom.

Is financing available for the franchise fee or startup costs?

We can introduce you to financing partners who understand home services businesses, and some candidates qualify for programs through national small business lenders. What we will not do is guarantee financing or promise a rate. Those decisions sit with the lender, not with us. We’re glad to point you in the right direction and help you put together a clean application. Your own bank is often a good place to start, too, especially if you already have a relationship there.

Do I get an exclusive territory?

Yes. Each Lightwell location is an independent local business serving a defined territory, and you’ll know exactly where your boundaries sit before you sign. We don’t overlap our own people. That would be bad for the brand and worse for you. The exact size and shape of the territory is part of the early conversation, because it needs to match the population, the housing stock, and the realistic demand for window replacement and door installation in your area.

How long does training take?

Plan on several weeks, split between hands-on product training, installation standards, and the business side of running a location. You’ll learn the products from all eight brands we carry: PGT, CGI, CWS, ES Windows, ECO Window Systems, Mr-Glass, Therma-Tru, and ViewLux. You’ll also learn the C.A.R.E. values the way we teach them to every technician. Training is not a formality. By the time you open your doors, you should be able to walk a home, write an honest price, and explain why one window makes sense over another. If you need more time, we’d rather you take it than rush.

What ongoing fees or royalties does Lightwell take?

There is a royalty structure, and it’s a percentage of revenue, not a mystery. You’ll see the exact number early in the process, before any commitment. There is also a small contribution toward brand marketing that all locations participate in, because one strong name benefits everyone. No hidden fees, no surprise charges at the end of the year. If you ask Keith Yamada what the ongoing fee pays for, he’ll tell you it covers the things that keep the brand worth owning: systems, support, and the shared reputation of the Cedarwell network.

How long does it take from signing to opening my doors?

Most owners open within six to twelve months of signing, depending on real estate, permitting in your area, and how much buildout your space needs. That’s a realistic window, not a sales promise. Some people move faster when a turnkey space is available. Others take a little longer because they want to be involved in every decision. We’ll give you a timeline at the start and keep it updated as things move. You’ll never wonder where you stand.

What kind of support do I get after opening?

You get the Cedarwell network behind you, which means real people who answer the phone when you have a question about a product, a tricky install, or a customer situation. You get continuing access to the manufacturer relationships we’ve built since 2010. You get help with marketing, operations, and the fine points of pricing a job so it’s fair to the homeowner and profitable for you. You do not get micromanaged. Your location is yours to run, and we trust you to run it well. The 365-Day Done Right Promise is our shared backstop: if something’s not right, we make it right, and we support you in doing that without debate.

What makes a good Lightwell franchisee?

Someone who answers the phone when it rings. Someone who believes a written price before work starts is not a perk but a basic form of respect. Someone who will put shoe covers on before walking across a customer’s rug and mean it. The C.A.R.E. values are not optional, and the best owners already think that way before they ever hear the acronym: Clean up like it is our own home. Ask before we move or touch anything. Respect the family’s time and quiet hours. Explain the price before the work. If that sounds like how you’d run a business even without a franchise agreement, you’re probably a fit.

What is the next step if I’m interested?

Call the franchise sales line at (562) 478-8017. You’ll speak with a person, not a recording. We’ll ask a few questions about your background and your market, answer the questions you have, and if it seems like a good match on both sides, we’ll schedule a deeper conversation. There’s no pressure and no countdown. We’d rather take the time to get it right.

Still Have Questions?
