ECO Window Systems Window Replacement: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you have an ECO Window Systems window that’s fogged, sticking, or leaking air, we can replace it properly. Most ECO Window Systems window replacements in Los Angeles run between $450 and $1,100 per window installed, depending on size, glass package, and whether the frame itself needs work. We stock common ECO-compatible parts on our trucks and can usually get a replacement scheduled within a week of your estimate.

Here’s how the conversation usually starts: a homeowner notices condensation trapped between the panes that won’t wipe away, or a window that used to slide smoothly now takes two hands and a knee brace. Sometimes it’s a draft that showed up in February, or a lock that simply stopped catching. That’s a failed part, not a failed house. The window did its job for years; now one component gave out and the window needs to come back to spec.

Key takeaways:

  • We replace ECO Window Systems windows with new, factory-spec units or the correct replacement component, not a generic off-brand substitute.
  • Most replacements are completed in one visit once the new unit arrives.
  • Every job includes a written price before work starts. No number changes at the end of the day.
  • We’re an independent Los Angeles window company, not an ECO Window Systems dealer or affiliate. We work on their windows because they’re a solid product, and because our customers already have them in their homes.

Which ECO Window Systems Models This Applies To

ECO Window Systems builds vinyl and aluminum window lines that have gone by several series names over the years, including the ECO 400, ECO 500, and ECO 600 series, plus a number of builder-grade units installed in Los Angeles tract homes from the mid-1990s onward. The most common units we see in Los Angeles are horizontal sliders and single-hung windows in the 400 and 500 series, though we also replace casements and fixed picture windows. The good news: ECO’s extrusion profiles across the 400 and 500 series are close enough that many replacement sashes, balances, and IGUs (insulated glass units) interchange between them. The bad news: the 600 series and some later builder-spec units use a narrower frame profile, and those parts do not swap cleanly. If you’re not sure which series you have, look for the AAMA certification sticker, usually on the inside edge of the frame or behind the top sash. It will list the manufacturer code and sometimes the series number. If the sticker is gone, measure the visible glass width and the overall frame depth; we can usually identify the series from those two numbers and a photo.

On the OEM question: ECO-branded replacement glass and sashes are still available through specialty suppliers, but lead times in Los Angeles can stretch three to four weeks. For most homeowners, a high-quality aftermarket IGU made to the same thickness and Low-E spec performs identically and arrives faster. We’ll tell you the price and lead time for both and let you decide; the written price covers either path, so there’s no guessing game.

Signs Your ECO Window Systems Window Replacement Is Failing

A failing ECO window almost always announces itself before it fully stops working. Here’s what Los Angeles homeowners call us about most often, and what’s typically going on behind the symptom:

  • Condensation trapped between the panes. The IGU seal has failed. Once the desiccant inside the spacer is saturated, that fog is permanent; the only real fix is a new glass unit.
  • Window won’t stay up when you raise it. The block-and-tackle or spiral balances inside the side channels have worn out. On ECO’s 400/500 series, these are replaceable as a matched pair, and we keep the common sizes stocked.
  • Hard to slide, or it drops when you close it. Dried-out rollers on the bottom track, or a bent roller housing from years of force. In coastal Los Angeles neighborhoods like Redondo or San Pedro, salt air accelerates this wear noticeably.
  • Drafts around the sash even when locked. The weatherstripping has compressed or the sash has settled out of square. Sometimes it’s a replacement weatherstrip; sometimes the frame has shifted enough that a new sash is the honest fix.
  • Visible frame cracking or a loose corner weld. This is the one that warrants full replacement. Vinyl expands and contracts constantly in Los Angeles heat; after enough years of direct afternoon sun, a weld seam can fail. New glass won’t fix a failing frame.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here are the price ranges we quote most often for Los Angeles homes, based on what we’re actually seeing across our jobs in 2026:

  • Glass-only replacement (IGU swap): $280 – $560 per window. The frame stays, the failed glass comes out, a new Low-E argon-filled unit goes in. Most common fix for fogged windows.
  • Sash + balance replacement: $320 – $620 per window. When the glazing is fine but the hardware is shot.
  • Full window replacement (new unit in existing opening): $450 – $1,100 per window. Includes disposal of the old unit, new installation, insulated frame, and finish trim.
  • Add-ons that affect price: upper-floor work, stucco repair around the opening, custom glass tints, or windows over two stories. We put these in the written estimate up front. That’s the whole promise: you see every dollar before we touch the opening.

Every replacement we install includes our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the finished work isn’t right, Lightwell makes it right. No debate. No countdown.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: note which series sticker is still legible, take a photo of the window square-on from inside and outside, and measure the visible glass width and height to the nearest quarter-inch. That tells us most of what we need to prepare the right parts before we arrive.

Where DIY goes wrong: pulling the sash out releases the balance springs, and on an ECO single-hung, those springs are under serious tension. If the wrong one lets go, it gets ugly fast. Replacing an IGU also requires setting the glass into the frame with the right sealant and shimming; get that wrong and you’ve voided the warranty and bought yourself a fogged window again in two years. If the job requires removing the frame or cutting into stucco, that’s our work. Call (562) 478-8017 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your window is worth repairing or replacing, and what each path costs. The estimate is free.
